Duty to Provide Informatio	n  	Texas Family Code, Section 153.076.	 	
1.  Health, Education and Welfare –  Each parent IS ORDERED to notify the other parent, in a 
timely manner, of all significant information about the child’s healt\
h, education and welfare.  
 
2.  Sex Offenders –  If you plan to live with or marry any one who has been convicted of or charged 
with a sex offense as described in the Texas Code of Criminal Procedures\
, Chapter 62, you must 
notify the other parent within 10 days of living with that person, or if\
 you are not married, within 40 
days of living with that person. Your notice must also include a descrip\
tion of the sex offense 
charged. It is a misdemeanor to disobey this order.	
  	
 	
Alternative Dispute Resolution and Parenting Coordinators	 	
If the parents have  a dispute that does not affect their child’s health or safety, they m\
ay use 
mediation, or other alternative resolution methods, to try to solve the \
problem before going to court.  
They may also hire a Parenting Coordinator, an impar tial third party, to assist them in resolving 
parenting issues. 
 
Warning!   You must obey  all orders, even if the other  parent disobeys a court order.  If you disobey an order, you 	
can be sent to jail, fined, and have to  pay attorneys fees and court costs. 
 
VII. P	ROPERTY AND 	DEBTS	 	
[N	OTE	: Texas is a community property state.  This means that any new property or debt\
 that 	
either party obtains, from the minute they are married until the minute the judge gra\
nts the 
divorce, is community property, even if the proper ty or debt is only in one spouse’s name.  All 
community property and debt should be included in the Decree of Divorce. 
 
There are only a few exceptions to the law of comm unity property.  If either party receives a gift, 
an inheritance, or money from a lawsuit that does not compensate for lost wages, it is separate 
property.  It is a good idea to confirm separate property obtained durin\
g the marriage as that 
individual’s separate property in the Decree of Divorce.

Code, chapters 3, 4, and 5.]
