STEP 1 - The person that is applying for the divorce must fill-out the Summons, Complaint and Notice of Automatic Court Orders. *When selecting your case date be sure to use the Case Management Date to assist you. **Be sure to pick a return date at least 4-6 weeks after the date of your initial filing. Also, return date must be on a Tuesday. (No one has to go to court on the return date) Go to the Circuit Court Clerk's Office in your county and submit the following forms. • Summons • Notice of Automatic Court Orders • Complaint Pay $350 Filing fee  STEP 2 - You now must serve your spouse the  copy of the following forms: • Summons • Notice of Automatic Court Orders • Complaint The Sheriff must serve your spouse within 10 days of the return date (As stated on the Complaint form).  STEP 3 - Upon serving your Spouse, the Sheriff will send you the Return of Service form and it must be filed with the clerk's office. !

*HAVE YOU EVER RECEIVED MONEY FROM THE STATE OR TOWN? - If so read the instructions below, if not, you may proceed to the next step. • Complete the Certification. If you have received money from the State, then you must send the following forms: Summons, Complaint, Notice of Automatic Court Orders, and the Return of Service Form to the Connecticut Attorney General's Office: Office of the Attorney General 55 Elm St. Hartford, CT 06106 • If you have received assistance from your Town, you will have to send copies of the following form to the office in which you receive your funds.  STEP 4 - This a very important step - The part or spouse that did not file for the divorce (Defendant), must complete the Appearance and file within 48 hours after the return date. *Option - The defendant may also file the Answer form, and if it is filed, then the following forms should be attached. • Complaint • All Responses

STEP 5 - Complete and File Case Management Agreement with the clerk.   STEP 6 - Complete and send to one another the Financial Affidavit. This will help decide you both calculate how much each party will receive in the Divorce Agreement and Child Support (if children) Affidavit Concerning Children. *If there are children, at this time each parent, individually or as a couple, should attend Parenting Education. You must receive a certification at the end of the class and it must be done within sixty (60) days when the Return Date.  STEP 7 - Complete and file the Dissolution of Marriage Report, you and your spouse must file this form separately. The clerk will notify the spouses via mail of the scheduled court hearing.  STEP 8 - Go to your scheduled court hearing. Upon successful hearing, you will be able to file a Divorce Judgment and it must be done within 30 days of the hearing date.  !
